should work on your car and will throw off your speedometer. 195-65-15 will be a better size for you application.

1989 came with 205/60/14 stock.
Do you have a JDM 1989, which is a 5th Gen (not a 4th Gen; North America)?

wut

You do realize that wheel diameter has no bearing on speedo accuracy, right?

Only if the overall diameter of (wheel + tire) changes. If you are getting larger wheels, you can adjust the tire size so overall diameter is the same, and speedo will not change. If you do not adjust, sure, speedometer will be way off.

Just make a proper conversion based off your OEM size.

Sure.... if you're that guy that just keeps the same profile tire when you upsize your wheels. Which you shouldn't do.

So....

FICTION.

I have 16 inch wheels on my 92 GT that came with 15s. Care to tell me exactly how my speedo reading is affected?

I've not tried a whirly gig on my speedo while swimming. I might get some better reactions!
