92 ST died on the freeway, need some help asap

heres everything you need to know, could use all the help i can get, this is my DD

So i was driving from walmart on the freeway the other day, and noticed once i hit about 65, in 5th, i wasnt moving anywhere but the engine is still running. i think the clutch is slipping, but the tach wasnt moving, so i left off the gas, and go to engage it again, samething, engine is moving but the car is not.

I go to nuetral, hit the shoulder. Have it towed home.

Ive checked:

Spark(plugs were burnt at the top, like black, from the top threading all the way to the tips, but they still sparked fine)
Checked fuses, all good.
Did the fuel pump check, didnt have any pressure going to the fuel rail(squeezed the hose) but the fuel pressue regulater made a clicking noise, but no fuel in the return hose)
Changed the fuel filter, car didnt start(was the filter the car came with from factory, wow)

Im thinking maybe its the fuel pump? i cant hear it primering when i turn on the power, and there doesnt seem to be any fuel coming to the rail, again i squeezed the hose with vise grips after i jumped the pump, and felt the same.

But, when i removed my intake/filter(aftermarket short ram set up) there was a little puddle of oil in the throttle body when i took off the intake. Im thinking either A)pump is bad or B)maybe a blew the head gasket?

Oil is clean, no bubbles, same with coolant, and the coolant doesnt bubble when engine is cranked, no white smoke either.

Any help?

Ok

Got my walbro, the people didnt include the gas rated butt splices,so theyre sending them to me,should be here by fri/sat.

I went ahead and put the pump in the car, and used regular butt splices, which im going to swap out for the ones they send me.

My question is, when i plugged everything back in, i STILL couldnt hear the pump primering. The battery is too dead to try an crank/start the car, im going to jump it tomorrow morning and give it a shot.

So IF it is indeed NOT the fuel pump that caused this, where should i look next? The fuses are good, should i check the EFI main relay? i checked the fuel pump relay, its good.

What else would make the car die mid drive on the freeway? it has spark, if the pump works, itll have fuel.

Note: spark plugs are black at top, from the top threading all the way to the electrodes, what else could cause this, and the car to die? any help?

ive checked the injectors, they are all good.

any help?

Wink

The ECU probably went dead

Here a link the the complete Celica Factory Service Manual:

http://www.onlinefreeebooks.net/auto...anual-pdf.html

Check the ignition section and the efi section for good troubleshooting plus the engine section.

There is a good flow chart to follow in the ignition section and if you make all those checks it will lead you into the EFI section and the measuring of voltages on the diagnosis port for the ECU. Plus the engine section also has some good troubleshooting flow charts.

Just have to put the work in and do things right.

Also, there is not a better, more complete manual anywhere, except for color pictures of projects on the internet. The japanese use this manual; hence the title "Celica Factory Service Manual".
