USA help shift linkage very sloppy

hey guys i need some help. i did an engine swap in my 93 celica gt-s from a 5sfe to a 3sfe. the engine went in fine starts up and runs fine. the only problem im having is that the shifter is loose. it goes into 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th just fine. its hard to get into 5th and Reverse. it also moves from left to right when the shifter is in gear. i havent checked the linkage under the shifter yet. If the linkage isnt the problem is there anything else that could be wrong? thanks in advance for your help.

i know this is off topic but why did you go to the 3S-FE im curious to know why you'd wanna lose power, torque, and displacement.

Usually cheaper on Ebay. Most engine sellers on ebay market it as a direct replacement.... which.... it kinda sorta is, depending on what year your celica is.

And it's getting hard to find good 5sfes in junkyards.

hes right i did get it off of ebay for about 400.00 the old engine blew on me so i needed a quick cheap replacement until i can afforst the 3sgte swap. however this stupid little 3sfe has cost me about the same as the 3sgte after all the money put into it. but it should do well for a while till i get what i really want.
