i originally posted about swapping the 5sfe for a v6,but after a lot of research i discovered that i could use a 3sgte head on the 5sfe block.i'm confident that i could do the swap myself, but i'm not sure what parts i need besides the head, intake manifold, turbo, ecu.any info on what else i need would be a big help.does anyone know where i could find a 3sgte head in ontario, canada?
If you're going to do it to boost it, don't bother.
In a boosted application, you'll make marginally more power on a true "5sgte" than a "5sfte" for a huge investment more.
The weakest point of the 5sfe in a boosted scenario isn't the head, it's the rod bolts. If your car is a 90-91, i wouldn't boost the 5sfte anyways, you don't have a knock sensor.
For what you want to do, it'll be easier, safer, and possibly cheaper just to swap a 3sgte as a whole into your car.

i was told that i would need all the sensors and wiring for a 3sgte swap, but i can only find just the engine, intake manifold, ecu, fron jdm engines located in montreal.do i really need this?

do i actually need all sensors for the swap?im new to engine swaps.i don't know what else i need besides the ecu and wire harness.i know my tranny will bolt up to the engine.if i buy the engine from a jdm dealer i dont get the tranny with it.a list of what i would need can really help right now. thanks for any info you can offer.
Ideally you'd want a whole front clip... it makes things WORLDS easier.
But... if you're just going to get an engine... yeah. You'll need full wiring harness, sensors, motor fully dressed, and ECU.
You'll need to do a custom clutch setup, since the stock tranny WILL work, but stock clutch WONT. You need a 3sgte flywheel, 5sfe clutch.
If you don't get the sensors and wiring harness, you may as well just convert that thing over to a full AEM EMS or something and go to town.

if u want to you could rebuild the bottom end and put in 3sgte rods bolts and pistons and use the 5sfe block because its so durable. then make the top end the 3sgte

Then you're just trying to reinvent the wheel.... it'll cost more to do that than to swap a whole 3sgte.
Doing what you said is really only reasonable if you blew up your 3sgte and want a built stroker.

thanks for the info.i think i'll just do a full swap and go out and try to find a front clip.u know where i can find one? they're hard to find in canada.

I thought there were more importers in Canada.... I don't honestly know where to look up there.
Got any local performance shops? Find out where they tell you to go.
I know there's quite a few out on your West Coast.

its a 1990 gt.i could just turbo the 5sfe,but it has 267,000km on the motor and tranny.it would need a full rebuild for that to happen.i do have 2 turbos laying around.
what exactly would i have to rebuild/replace?could i get away with just pistons, rings, valves, and new gaskets?would i need a head spacer to lower the compression or can i get lower comp pistons.to add to this im only looking for mild boost, somewhere around 4-6 psi.would stock internals hold up to the extra stress?i already plan to change rod bolts ang possibly forged rods if i can find any.i'll be posting pics of the tear down/rebuild when i get started.just need funds for new parts to start.

Stock internals should be fine for 4-6psi depending on how big the turbo is.
You can't change the rod bolts, nobody makes an aftermarket piece for that engine.
You won't need to lower the compression.
Just do a basic rebuild and go for it. You may want to think about getting some sort of knock sensor/guard on that thing, as you don't have one.

i have two turbo systems. the first is a mitsubishi te04h that came fron an eagle talon, the other is a mitsu td05h from a saab 900 turbo.i dont know what kind of boost they will make, but they're stock units so im thinking around 4-7 psi.i should get them rebuilt since they both came from a scrap yard.all i need to buy is an adapter for the manifold.
