Gen5 Fog Lights w/o Headlights

I'm gonna dig through my wiring diagrams this afternoon but I thought I would see if this has been done before to save me a lot of thinking...

Anyone wired their lights so the fog lamps can be switched on without the headlights on a 5th Gen GT?

I borrowed a VW once that allowed me to do just that, and it makes a huge difference in heavy snow, not having a white out up high, but lights low and on the road only.

Yeah.... there's a write up on Celicatech.

I haven't actually done it. I've found that yellow tinted lights get rid of that white out effect.

Currently i'm using Nokya "hyper yellows."

The only thing to keep in mind is that the H4s (headlights only) run a bit more draw than stock, and usually melt your connectors, so you have to get high temp plugs.

The H3s (Fogs) are perfectly fine.

There's better options out there (a true Hella E-code housing with bulb of your choice works wonders) but i got these bulbs on sale for like... $30 for both sets.

HIDs would be killer, but I'm not dropping more then $40 to replace my fog lamps. I might consider it if I were still cruising the mountains near Monterey...

By high-temp plugs, you are referring to that cheap feeling quarter-turn plastic guy on the back of the bulb housing. Or do I also need to get a slightly heavier gauge harness? Lucky for me, heavy snow fall is in the forecast this weekend.

HIDs in a non-HID housing causing more glare and "white out" conditions than stock, and will negatively affect the visibility. Not to mention create unsafe conditions for everyone being blinded when going past you.

You won't need the high temp plugs for the fogs. Just plug whatever H3s you want in there.

It's only an issue with the headlight "H4" plugs. The nokya yellows that i ran in my headlights were 100w bulbs and melted my plugs.

Ok, rock on. I have a pair of Hella H4s running at 55W for now. I'll worry about that assembly if and when I upgrade the lights. I love not having to replace the entire lamp ever again.
