gt4 cuts out! please help

hi i have a 1992 gt4 import and recently the clutch has been changed_ since then the car wont run properly
the error codes state theres a problem with the afm and inlet temp thing but they seem to be working ok

with the afm plugged in the car runs fine for exactly 15 seconds and then cuts out but it will restart straight away. with the afm disconnected the car doesnt cut out but runs like a sack of crap!

anyone got any ideas cos im stumped and i desperatly need this fixed

thanks in advance

AFM is shot. Replace it. There's a time frame when you first start the car that it runs without AFM signal, then switches over to AFM signal if the AFM is present. Your AFM is shot, so it's just killing the car.

Without the AFM, it'll run indefinitely in limp mode.

so i need a new afm then just been quoted £650 for a new one!

are they that fragile then? it was working fine then taken out the car for a few days then replaced.

its reading 5v at idle then reducing to 0v at open throttle is this correct?

is there any quick fix or mods that can be done instead of replacing the unit or even something just to conferm that it is the afm thats shot?

thanks

Yeahhh.... might be time to convert to gen3 electronics buddy. Or track down a used one.

They're pretty fragile... they work via moving parts on a contact point. I don't know about the voltage, to be honest, you'd be better off asking that question at alltrac.net.

They'd also be able to tell you for sure if it's shot or not... But the fact that it runs (albeit not well) without the afm, but doesn't WITH the AFM isn't a good sign.

AFM isn't the best system for those motors.... i would seriously look around for gen3 conversion information, i know there's a lot of it on mr2oc.com, and people are typically spending less than $600usd for the whole thing. And it'll give you more power and a "happier" less fussy motor.

arm prob.

test the afm frist before getting a new one. Here are the
Specs. First the 7 pins from left to right
First 3 pins are then the 4th is vc,e2,vs,and tha.
Here is the chart to check out.
Between term./ resistance. /temp.
Vs-e2. 200-600 ohms.
Vc-e2. 200-400 ohms
Tha-e2. 10-20 kohms. -20c (-4f)
4-7 kohms. 0c (32f)
2-3 kohms. 20c (68f)
0.9-1.3 kohms. 40c (104f)
0.4-0.7 kohms. 60c (140f)
If the afm is in spec. That is not the problem.
Check the wiring. Make sure that a wire was not
Pinshed between the block and trans. I hope that helps.
Let me know. Email is st-185turbo@hotmail.com
