USA New to toyotas...

Just bought a 1990 Celica with the 2.2L, manual trans, and changed out the passenger side CV shaft, and now I need to fill the trans-axle, just not sure of where to fill it. I found the drain plug, just want to make sure which plug to take out so I can fill the trans. I think I found it, but don't want to take random bolts out of a transmission case to find out. Anyone got pictures, or can describe where to look? The bolt I think it is, is on the side of the trans, about 1/3 of the way up the side of the trans, towards the front of the vehicle, and it appears to be angled down slightly. Is this right? Thanks!

Passenger side, between the wheel and the center engine support. There is a large, flat, silvery pan with ribs. There is a recessed bolt in it. There is nothing easier then draining the oil or the tranny fluid, both bolts are on the bottom of their pans.

Might as well do the filter and the pan gasket while you're at it.

Thanks for the reply, but this Celica is a manual trans, not automatic, so there is no pan, hHave to fill the transaxle case directly.

Yeah, my bad, no more posting via my phone.

That guy has your basic info needed to fill your transaxle. In the future, shes a C52, which will help with any future searches.

It says 92, but it has EVERYTHING you will ever need.

It's actually an S53 tranny. The C52 mates to the A-series motors.

My apologies, that makes a lot more sense now. I never put the two together. Do you know what years the S53 and S54 were used? Another project that I have will be converting to manual, but I'll be doing that when I get a new engine, not another junkyard motor thats moving toward failure...

In celicas, S53 was used through 93. 6th gen celicas 94-99 have the S54, which has a better 3rd gear, and a very SLIGHTLY shorter final drive. It's also a little stronger. If i was building an n/a motor, this is the way to go.

The S53 3rd gear SUCKS. I would bet on almost a half second faster quarter mile with just an S54 dropped in on a stock motor.
