2001 celica - ticking sound coming from under dash?

i just purchased a 2001 celica, after driving it home i stopped and got out of the vehicle and locked the door with the key, and when i re-entered a few minutes later i noticed a ticking noise coming from under the driver side dash. it is a steady fast ticking and continues to tick both while sitting closed and wile driven now. there are no error/warning lights on.

has anyone had a similar experience such as this with a celica? possibly is this a common issue with a celica? i assume it may have to do with the cars alarm (which is factory i suppose), because of the fact that it only started after the car door had been locked, which i assume would most likely trigger the alarm to set, also i noticed the alarm light on the dash doesn't light.
