it shifts from first to second just fine, park and reverse works perfectly. any suggestions? the selinoid> or the speed sensor? or what? the transmission is had been working great, and onlyu has 60K miles on it

I had a 90 ST as well with 386,000 miles on it and mine locked in third gear and the second one would sometimes have trouble going into. There wasn't any grinding in any one the gears either. I ended up changing my 2nd and 3rd gear sincro's (sp) and it fixed my problem. I would look into it a little more first before you do the same tho. Takes a weekend to change them out. and was really tricky too.
