gt vs gts

i have had both the gt and now i have the gts. the gt red lined at 6900rpms and the gts depending on the year 00-01 8400 rpms and 02-05 7800 rpms. also the gt has a 10.1:1 compression and the gts has 13.4:1 compression. now if your in the states the gt can be a five speed manual (C56) or a 4 speed auto. in europe it comes with a 6-speed. the gts comes with a 6-speed(C60) everywhere and im not sure how many speeds the gts auto has. then you also have a stiffer suspension with the gts vs the gt. the both models you can have the premieum stereo system and the horsepower and torque is different too. for more info go to newcelica.org and click on tech info.

The GT-S was introduced in the 3rd Gen Celica.
It's basically a GT but with bits borrowed from the Supra.
- entire rear suspension (IRS)
- wheels (14x6")
- flared wheel arches (front slightly different because 4 cyl Celica had shorter front sheet metal than the 6 cyl Supra)
- front seats
- sports dash
- various electronic do-dads.

More details here (near the end):
http://members.iinet.net.au/~stepho/gtspecs.htm

Except for the flared wheel arches, all of these are easy to swap from a wrecked Supra.

Thanks stepho for the link.
i have printed out out the info and got it in a folder of celica stuff i have.

yer i know a few things about the 3rd gens as im mainly on celica-gts but newer models are my downfall

i have a few usdm parts on my 3rd gen and prefer the looks of them to the aussie ones.

do most of the gt-s over there come with elec windows? as ive seen a couple of 3rd gens with elec mirrors and windows.

Electric windows were an option on the GT/GTV/GT-S right from the beginning in 1970 (although not available in all markets).
I grafted RA40 JDM electric windows into my '77 RA28 but later replaced them with ones from a Cressida.
The Cressida electrics will also fit the RA65 with a bit of adapting.
Unfortunately Toyota doesn't have any records for how many vehicles had which options.

ive never seen any 1st gens or 2nd gens here with elec windows.

For the first 3 generations (ie RWD) Australia got
- the lowly LT for the first gen
- the LT and ST for the 2nd gen
- the ST and XT for the 3rd Gen

Of these, only the 3rd gen XT had electric windows as an option in Australia.
But I was lucky enough to come across a few Japanese models in a wrecking yard brought in as grey market personal imports.

None had twincam engines but they are easy to get from Japanese engine importers.

My own car started life as a 1977 RA28 LT liftback with a 88HP 18R-C.
Now it has an 18R-G twincam, MA45 LSD, MA45 rear disc brakes, MX61 Cressida genuine wooden steering wheel, MX73 Cressida electric windows, 1984 GT-S sports seats, twin US door sports mirrors, US GT grill and 1984 Soarer 15" wheel rims. Not exactly a genuine GT but all still Toyota parts. Toyotas are wonderful for parts bin engineering.

Ah yer cool.
i knew of the earlier gens but thanks for the info on power window options as i own 3 xt model RA60's one has a sunroof and the other doesn't

so does this mean that if my cars had options for elec window i can pretty much get the components and it should be a bit easier to do?
get doors from the MA61 with elec mirrors and windows and wire that up?

yer i've always love my toyotas
yer ive got a few plans for my cars.

where abouts in AUS are you stepho?
