oil leak

I've got a '95 celica GTS, and it's got a major oil leak.. One would say just go to the mechanic, but every time I go it's a nightmare and they usually say if I don't pay $4000, that my car will blow up. This is normal. The oil is leaking from the front passenger side of the car. I've already replaced the valve cover gasket, and it's still going strong. I go through a few quarts every few days. When I put oil in, it just spurts out as soon as I start the engine.. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears! The last thing I need is to be told I need to pay twice as much as the car is worth...
