Gen5 problems! Need Advice!!!

after about a month of pre-knock (those little knocks on a cold start that fade away after a few sconds) my car finally threw a rod yesterday. here's my question. since my car is a 90 celica gts with the rev1 5sfe can i upgrade to the rev 2 5sfe without changing my computer or getting a CEL? all opinions welcome.

What is rev 2? I have seen the coil packs on later model camrys instead of the cap and rotor on my 5sfe. I was thinking about that and it seems it would make sense to change the ecu for that. There is also a different igniter and has got to be some other stuff that will only work with the correct ecu. So I would say you need everything just for it to even work.
