Question Speedometer problem went zzzzzzzzzzzz

In colorado one day this winter the temperature went below zero.
As I was 7.5miles to work that was 15 miles away on the high way doing 65miles per hour. The speedometer pointer started to fluctuate and had a gear grinding zzzzzzzzzzzzzz sound to it. As I was maintaining a steady speed. It hasn't done it since.

Does this mean that my speedometer is warning me that it's going out?

it needs lube, if it doesn't get any, it'll snap.

Talking Tell me more

Where do I put the oil in?
How will it snap?
Did you put into account that it only happens in extreme cold weather?
