USA What Should I do?

So the other day I'm driving my baby (88 Celica GT convertible 169K miles) down I64 in VA Beach. The top is down and it's about 80 degrees. Then I notice as the car slowing and jerking. I pull over in the emergency lane and limp along at 30 trying to get to the exit when the car just stops. The engine is running fine but the transmission, to quote my uncle "sh*t the bed". So i had the car towed home and was able to drive it in the garage with a god awful should. I put the car up on jackstands and ran it in drive. A horrible grinding noise from the trans confirmed my fears. So i started looking at a JDM trans and have found a few and I could do the work myself.
My delimia is that I am starting summer school so I can finally finish college next year. I dont have the time to fix it and I really need another car. My question to you guys is should i hold on to it and go into debt or should I sell it as is to someone who could fix it. Ive had it about 14 months and ive replaced the tires, front brake pads, rack and pinon, ball joints, tie rod ends, front struts, two motor mounts, alternator, starter, belts (not timing), hoses, and battery. Before this, the biggest problem with the car was that it needed a new top. It was painted (red)a few years ago and has no rust at all. The body is very straight. The interior is in good (not perfect) shape.
So whats the car worth? I really do love the car but I might not be in the position to keep it. If anyone wants some pics send me an email my126benz@gmail.com

Thanks
