Gen5 Limp mode

Can somebody give me a rundown of what it does for a car? Can it be manually triggered and how?

Limp mode, is celica's safe mode running operation.

when the ecu ain't happy with a particular sensor input's signal or if it isn't getting an input signal at all, it does 1 of either two things...

1) shuts down (IE: stalls)

2) runs into this limp mode you talk of. Where your engine light stays on, and the ecu maintains operation to a preset 'safe mode', in which it replicates signals inputs for fuel injection and ignition timing predetermined & stored in the ecu memory in what it thinks is a safe way of stumbling but still running to get ya home or to a mech. shop. It runs gutless and light a dog in this mode. But still runs.

Now inducing! the only way i ever induced it was when i was mucking with my MAP sensor. but i won't go there, theres got to be another way. Out of curiosity, why do you want to induce it?

call me crazy but... since im about to put my motor together and my dad is very very VERY rev-happy. so i want to contol the revs (to cheap to buy a secondary rev limiter or what ever its called) and spend little to no cash. this was the first thing i thought of.

Just keep your dad out of the car...it's your car, after all. I don't let ANYONE else drive my Celica or any of my cars any more. When they do, the car always feels different afterwards. Like clutch feel and brakes pulsing. Keep your baby to yourself!
