5afe question

ll Explain The Situation

92 Celica ST
5afe Engine Swap (JDM)

I have a 5afe (NOT 5sfe) it is a 1.5l replacement for the 1.6 4afe... Engine ran great... low oil... spun bearing... so I dropped the Oil pan... number 3 Connecting rod is the culprit... and it's NOT the same color as the rest of the Connecting rods... Crank Specs seem to be the same as the 4afe... and the engine has good, even compression... the crank specs out fine...

I was told the 4afe-5afe use the same bearings... replaced all crank and rod bearings... Still knocks and keeps chewing the number 3 rod bearing... I believe the rod and cap are tweaked... so... here comes the questions...

Are the 4afe Connecting rods the same as the 5afe?... I already know the studs are different threading between the two but they are same Diameter studs and length...

So basically is the 5afe de-stroked on the crank? de-stroked on the rod? or does it use smaller pistons to lower to a 1.5l instead of the 4afe 1.6?

any knowledge would be a great help...

anyone know what car a 5afe would come in stock?

Thanks again!

No body knows if a early style 5afe has an 18 or 20 mm pin?
