Repair exterior door handle 92 Celica

I've got a 92 Celica and the exterior door handle on the driver's side doesn't work. I took the door panel off and found the rod from the handle to the latch mechanism is not connected. I can't tell if it's broken or just come undone, but it loks simple enough to fix. Or so I thought.

I can't manage to reach inside and get to the handle. If the window is rolled down, it's in the way, if it's rolled up, it's STILL in the way a little and now I can't see by looking down from the top. Is there a way to get better access to the handle? I can't even reach the bolts to remove the handle entirely. I figure there has to be something I'm missing....

You should be able to get the handle out with the window up with a box wrench, maybe a socket. I think there are at least 2 bolts holding the handle in and I know the rod going to it is hard to get off so yours is possibly broken.

I have a 92 GTS that the same thing happened on the Passenger door. Bought the bushing lock at the local toyota parts house and installed. Did not have to remove handle just door panel.
