5SFE cam timing.

Well folks I have been looking in here for around an hour now trying to find pics of this cam setup. My Hanyes book is just driving me crazy. I rebuilt my engine over the past year. I thought all was good till it would not start. Checked my belt timing was off just a tad fixed it but still no fire in the hole. So here I am back looking at cam timing again. Haynes says line up the dots, shows pics of ref and timing dots. They do not mention the other dots on both gears. If I have these set up correct it should be the 2 sets of single dots with the ref dots up and timing dots lined up dot to dot. Any help here would be great.

Alan

Even with bad cam timing, you should get some form of firing. Whether it be a back fire or kick back. you getting any of that?

BTW, i think the haynes manual for the celica is an absolute pile of s@%t! That book had me sooo fired up on too many occasions.

Thanks Pineapple, same pic that is in the haynes book. Just means i had the cam in correct. LOL

I don't get any back fire, I can not hear the fuel pump run when teh key turns either. But I can jump the test connector and get it to run.

Thanks for the help guys will go back out and do more trouble shooting. Car was a cheap pick up so I have no real cash into it just yet, Other than the engine rebuild.

You'll get it going, the cam gear isn't that hard to line-up. When I swapped the gasket/o-ring on my oil pump (and crank seal, etc) recently, I fudged the t-belt ever so slightly--it skipped half a dozen teeth. I know, I know, dumbass...

I was easily able to line-up the crank and cam again, though. Got it running in no time. Follow the fuel pump idea and I think you'll have the real problem solved...
