2002 Bumper replacement

Hi, my son is looking at a 2002 Celica with 89k miles. It seems in excelllent condition except for the front bumper being cracked and very badly scraped. I see where that part can be ordered pretty cheaply...is that something that one can replace pretty easily? I realize it would then have to be painted to match. He does not know a lot about cars but is willlng to learn. They are asking $6900 for it but I know they will accept $6000, but he doesn't have a lot to spend on a car. Also is there a way to tell if the timing belt has been replaced yet? . Thanks in advance for any advice. The Mom

you're correct, 6900 is way high! what model is it and what options does it have?


try looking around newcelica.org, i know that they have a few good how-to's or just ask them there and they can point you in the correct direction. usually removing and installing a bumper cover will take 30 minutes to one hour and is doable with hand tools only. i'm not specifically sure on this car though.

Yes, the bumper cover is an easy replacement. The 1.8L Celica '00-'05 have a timing chain. In addition, The first few years of the Celica were known for burning oil ('00-'02). The only way to remedy that problem is to bore the engine with over-sized pistons. Good luck!
