Installing new rims

Hi. I just bought some alloy rims for my 1992 celica GT. They had steel rims before but these rims were off a 5h gen celica so they fit great, I tried them on. I have a couple of questions though. Can I use the same lug nuts that I used on my steel rims? They are open ended lug nuts. They fit okay, although because the wheels are slightly thicker the studs are shorter (is that a problem?). But I heard that the wheel can come off due to the different levels of heat between alloy and steel.
Thanks in advance

I believe the nuts are different. Steel rim nuts are cone shape at the end. 5th gen rim use nut with washer and it goes into the bolt hole on the rim.

I guess what I'm asking is do I have to replace the wheel studs for the new wheels? I've heard talk that OEM steel wheel studs are not strong enough for alloy rims and that alloy studs are needed.

Also will I need to replace the lug nuts from steel to aluminium?

Or can I just keep the factory wheel studs and lug nuts provided I can get the 6-7 turns needed for the wheel to stay on?

The lug nuts I have are cone shaped and don't seem to have washers. Also for some reason my GT has disk brakes at the back rather than drum

Ok never listen to whoever told you aluminum alloy is stronger then steel, ever again. That's a big load of BS.
Your stock studs are great, don't change them. Get the correct nut for the rim. Check the bolt hole in the rims. If its coned at the bottom, you can use your old nuts. If its flat, get the one with washer.

Great, that is what I was hoping to hear as changing them would be a big pain in the ass.
Thanks for your help
