Need advice on buying celica

Hello,

So I'm new to this forum, but I've been looking to buy a celica and have a question about one in particular I found for sale. It's a 1995 GT hatchback with 100,263 miles. It's only had two owners and is in great condition, except for one thing. I had my local dealer run a history check and it came back that the car's breaks were reported as eroded and warped, but never fixed. I made an offer for $3000 but was met with $3500 firm which I have, but am hesitant to pay for a 15 year old car that might need its breaks replaced.

My questions for you are
1) is this a common problem with 95 celicas?
2) has anyone had this problem, and if so how costly is it to fix?
and 3) should i get the car anyways for 3500?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My 95gt has 192K and is still a great car. Just have the brake pads replaced and turn (or replace) the rotors. Brakes are easy on this car. Did the dealer give you a price for brakes? Did you compare the price of car to other ads? A year ago that price would be fine, not sure about todays economy. If you are a do it yourselfer, this is the easiest car to work on.There are no TSBs on it and 30 mpg is a plus. Good luck!

Only you can answer whether it's worth it.... for you. Brakes shouldn't necessarily be a deal breaker (depending on what the report actually meant.....how bad is "eroded" ?). 100000 miles on a '95 car is decently low mileage - any way you can get the owner to get the brake system checked out before you buy ? Tell the owner about the report, ask that the brakes be checked (or provide proof that they've been fixed - reports are iffy, to say the least), and still offer less than asking price.
Worse comes to worst, find another Celi .... ain't no big ting, mon...

I wouldnt, I got my car 1990 toyota celica gts for 500 body was in good condition, motor ran, shifted fine.. I don't know where your located or that perhaps in some states a celica is worth more, but I'd talk it down.
alot of times, when people say "Firm" there just bluffing.. and breaks are fairly in-expensive.. espeshally if your considering 3500 for the car.

yeah, I imagine they just mean the pads and rotors, even then though if it goes past them, its still not awful. $3000 is still rather high though, but I guess can be reasonable. IIRC when I priced a full brake job through where I work it was about $30 each for front rotors, $25 or so for rears and pads ranging from $20 to $75 a set depending on grade. Then again we're kind of high compared to the competition but that will hopefully give you a good idea of what you'll find. (Nice part of working a place like that, I can get front rotors for $12 a piece and rears for $9 discount ftw)

edit: that was pricing for my 92 GT but the prices shouldn't vary too far from those.
