none.

the camry 4 cyl. engine was a 5sfe, a 2.2L engine and uses a different transmission.

a corolla or celica transmission could work. The corolla years 88-97 have a transmission that mate up to an A series engine like the 7afe that you have, regardless if it comes from a 1.6 or a 1.8L corolla. The drive ratios are different but will work. or a celica st years 90-99 with either a 1.6 or 1.8. the 1.6 is the 4afe( or 4af in the 88-89 corolla) but the transmission will bolt up.

your best bet is getting a transmssion for the 1.8 with the same amount of gears, that would be the easiest to replace. so simple answer for your best option: 93-97 corolla with a 7afe 1.8L or a 94-99 celica with the same engine and number of gears(3 or 4 speed)

Celica Trans

Thanks alot man I really appreciate it. I have a 94 Celica St 4speed auto that has a bad transmission. Specifically the differential gear has gone bad I think?. The transmission makes a whining sound while driving. before the whining sound, during turns at 40mph or above you could hear like something rough inside the transmission turning. So if the differential bearings went bad and now the main gear is whining does that mean the gear is shot?

Anyway if that gear is bad a new one runs atleast $500. And so I can buy a used tranny around $300. My Local Pullapart.com has 3 Celicas. One is a 90 and the other 2 is 92 models. Now Carollas there is a bunch ranging from 91-97.

I have no idea what engine or trans they have but I know they have them on the yard. In the next couple of weeks im going to look and see what condition these cars are in.

yeah make sure they dont have a ton of miles on them.

but if you're already going to be pulling the transmission then for the price I'd say pull one and put a different one in.

if its a 90 or 92 celica it could work but wouldn't be optimal. those would be the 1.6L engines(if they're STs, if they're GTs or GTS it'll be a different transmission all together) and have slightly different gear ratios. if those are your choices then check the corollas year 93-97 first and look to see if they have the 7afe, 1.8L engine. I'm guessing your shifter goes L 2 D and has an overdrive button? thats how the 4 speeds were on my old ae92 (90 corolla). so check that, if it has overdrive or not, little things like that could make the job much easier or hell.

anyway good luck.

Thanks man for all the information!

The car does have what you described on the gear shift(L,2,D)and a Overdrive button. Im gonna look into what you said last and I will make sure that it doesnt have a ton of miles on them. BTW the engine has 320K and it purs like a kitten lol!

One last thing I was wanting to know about and that would be the speed sensor. I used to have some prizms 91 and a 94. Both of the Transmissions seemed to have the same hookups, like the tranny mount, top, back, and front. The thing was on the 91 the speed sensor hook up or wire or cable seemed to be different. On my 94 Celica, it looks like the speed sensor is hooked to an electrical clip. I remember on the 91 Prizm it looked like there was a round cap on the sensor and then like a cable or tube running from it?? Would that be a problem? and could it be fixed like unbolting the sensor and dropping the other on in? Ohh and I seen a 92 transmission on Ebay for a 92 Celica Auto and it looks just Identical to mine except it has something on the tranny right beside the speed sensor and the sensor looks like I desrcibed earlier about a tube or cable instead of a electrical clip.

Again thanks for the information.
