Anybody ever use Redline MT-90 in GT/GTS from'90-'93?

I have a 1990 Celica GT 5sfe 5 speed (S53) and I just bought Redline MT-90 for the gear box.

I was wondering if anybody used this stuff in Celicas like mine from 1990-1993 model years.

The reason I ask is cause I hear conflicting things on what to use.

The owner's manual states ATF, but Ive seen alldata recommend API-GL5 75W-90.

I even saw the chiltons recommend for '91-'93 GT's, API GL-3 75W-90, API-GL-5 75-W90 or ATF, all in one breath, but no mention of the GL-4 75W-90 stuff....which is what Redline mt-90 is.

It is odd cause the '90 model is identical to the '91-'93 model GT's.

Now, Im not gonna use ATF... I bought it with gear oil and that's what Im gonna replace it with.

I was always told the GL-5 stuff is not so great for syncros, so why would Toyota recommend it???

That redline mt-90 will work fine. I have used the moble-1 API-GL5 75W-90 a couple of times but I would still get a grinding noise sometimes when shifting and I thought my synchros might be going bad, but after I threw in a half quart of 75w-140 the grinding went away. Some people recommend a quart of synchromesh in there with the 75w-90 and I might try that if the grinding comes back, but it has been 3000 miles and still no grinding with the 1/2 quart of moble1 75w-140.

From the celica factory service manual for the s53:

The oil is as follows: Oil grade API GL–3 Viscosity SAE 75W–90
In case the above is unavailable
Oil grade API GL–4 or 5

/\/\/\ thanx, I put the redline in this afternoon and it feels smooth.
When I had the old fluid in it, I had an occasional grind when I downshifted from 5th to 4th. I went on a road trip today and no grinds :-)
