77 body marriage with a 22- RE motor.

I have recently been driving an 83 toyota celica GTS, till it got hit the body was pretty bad... so as a project car we picked up a 1977 Celica body. wondering if anyone out there has tried to swap the engines over and if they have had any major problems or hints, as I would liek this to be a good start. I love all toyota's and the celicas are killer to drive. .... better then the corolla wagon I am stuck with right now.

- any ideas or suggestions let me know.

Plenty of guys have done this engine swap.
The 20R and 22R engines share many parts, so almost everything bolts up.
You may have to use the 22R exhaust manifold.

For more details, ask the guys at

Thumbs up Thanks..

It's a big help, when you know that someone has done it before. I looked at the scymatics( if that's even spelt right) and it looked like you could use the same parts and everything but it's still godo to know that my one car won't be wasted as I really loved it... spent too much money to lose it.

I was worried about the hood as the 77 engine bay is shorter so it will be good to have people to ask. Thank you for all the help and good luck with whatever projects or cars/trucks and anything on wheels that you are involved with.
