gen 7 94 Celica auto, takes off in second

Hi I'm new. I do most of my own work, I have a 94 Celica 120k auto, full pwr pkg. car is supurb condition, only it will not shift into first gear from a dead stop. I have to now drop it to low to take off then manually to second then to Drive. Is it the shift solenoid ? if so is it the one you see on the front of the tranny in view ? no lts on dash on . I gave it a tune up and this started , if I unplug the batt. reconnect it runs ok for a while but did this one time , not sure if its intermitant or its true. Thanks Eric
