Canada Starter problem?

Hello, I am wondering about what my car's problem is, everytime i am trying to start my car, when i turn the key, it takes about like 3 seconds to start it, my car is a 1996 celica gts. i remembered when i was driving my 1990 mazda 323, it only takes a second to start. what would be the problem on my celica?

can anyone help please.

thanks.

Hope,

does it sound like the starter is struggling before it finally turns over?

how is the power actually driving around?

usually if its a starter issue the engine wont turn at all or the starter motor wont have enough umf to really turn the engine. First thing I would think would be a tune up (plugs, cap, rotor, wires and filters)

distributor cap, rotor button(the thing that spins inside the distributor), plug wires, and I mean air filter and fuel filter. maybe oil filter too if its been a while since the last oil change.

oh, also maybe a little fuel injector cleaner? couldn't hurt.

just kind of ball park costs depending on where you go, I got these from where I work

Air filter ~$15
cap ~$10
rotor ~$3
plug wires ~$45
fuel filter ~$25
fuel injector cleaner ~$5?

if you just bought it, take a look at the spark plug wires and the cap they run to, if they look newer it may be something else but needing a tune up is usually the culprit.

how is the power on the road? does the car seem sluggish?

the power on the car is great, i dont know it is because i drove 1.3 before and now 2.2 or what, but everything been fine, just needing abit longer time to start the engine. i guess the spark plug wire need to change. since its the stock one...spark plug, i tried to take it out, it didnt seems like problem with it...i will change the spark plug wire first, then i will see how does it goes, thanks =D

oh I forgot a possibility, could maybe be the battery?

Local autoparts places usually offer free battery checks, it could just be a little low on charge or rather old if you say the car is running fine once its started.
