Need help! JDM swap in 88 celica

Hey guys I could sure use some help.

I have a 1988 Celica GT 2.0 convertible. After the transmission died i decided to replace both the trans and the engine. I purchased a used american market auto trans (140 L non electronic)from a wrecked 88 Celica and a 2.2 JDM engine. The guy at the JDM place told me that the 2.2 would work in place of the 2.0. Last night I was trying to attach the trans onto the new engine and had a hard time of it. It seemed to be binding. I took the transmission back off and checked the flywheel. The 2.2 has 8 bolts while my 2.0 has 6. Does anyone know if this torque converter is compatible with the 2.2 flywheel? Was the thing just binding or will they not work together?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
