Temp in which fan should turn on?

today i was working on my celica and i ran it for an amout of time, the temp gauge was at about half and the fan had not turned on yet. I connected the fan to the battery with wires and the fan kicked on so the fan works, so i'm thinking either a sensor isnt working or it just wasnt hot enough but i am pretty sure it should have been on. where is the temp at in your cars when your fans kick on? and what sensor am i looking to possibly replace?

not sure what the exact temp should be but more then likely it just wasn't hot enough yet. its sometimes takes a long while before it will kick on

Temp should not raise above half. If it get pass half, you have problem.

My GT has never been above half and it has 200,000m. Just let it idle, watch the temp gauge and if it rises above halfway and fan does not turn on, turn off car immediately and locate fan relay. Start from there.
