90 Toyota Celica winter car, questions

Hey all, I'm new to the forum, I currently drive a 1992 Toyota MR2 with Rev3 motor, ct20 turbo, 3" turbo back exhaust and 15psi of boost.

Anyways

Just wondering if anyone has owned one of these? Any common rust spots that I should look out for? Any problems with the tranny, or engine?

Basically, here's the deal:

I sold my winter car, and got this deal on this Toyota Celica, it has some rusted through rockers right by the rear wheels. Besides that, the car is clean, new motor in 2006, timing belt and components were done then. New clutch done as well.

Problems with the car:
Needs a new centre brake line
Rusted through rockers
Needs a new fuel line
Needs new brake pads

What I am asking, however, is about any sort of common problems with them? Is rusting rockers a common issue? Also, has anyone ever replaced the fuel line on one of these? It appears to be the return line, and how much work was it, and how much fuel line do I need?

Thanks for the information!

If the rocker is rusted, there will be more. You should at least jack the car up and check floor pans. Fuel line and brake line are a pain to do with engine in. You can patch it if its a small section. Toyota sell pre-bend fuel and brake lines, for about $90 each. Check with mechanic first to see how much you need to do for safety.

Take the time to remove the carpet and seats. There have been some amazing cases of floorpan rust, might as well get that before winter. Behind the rear seats, where the speakers are, there is an area where it typically rusts where the floorpan meets the frame. The front suspension arms are essentially welded plates, so they start rusting by trapping salt water inside of them. Lastly, check inside the doors, they like to go at the bottom, and once they start, you have to get a new door.

I am currently cleaning out the rust from rocker panel rot on my GTS. The frame has surface rust, so I am cleaning that with a dremel and a brush. After I get it completely primed and cleaned up, ill fiberglass the holes. I am going to make sure that moisture can drain this time, as it looks like the drain holes got clogged and trapped water. Those damn cars funnel in dirt and crap inside the panels until the fall out. Methinks scooped shaped mudflaps was a retarded idea.

Good luck, keep us posted!
