TA63 Engine??

Hey guys. Just wondering what would be a good swap. I cant think of a 4 cyl rwd engine that toyota has taken out that will be anywhere near as quick as the SR20det. The Altezza rs200 is a good choice.Still not powerful enough. There is obviously the 2jzgte but will it make the car front heavy?? Does anyone know any sites or pictures of TA63 or AA63 having done swaps of any kind?? The 4age is a good motor but i just do not think it will do what im looking for. Im looking to do a swap that will walk over a few cars out there?? Any recommendation would be highly appreciated... My mind is bouncing between the Altezza 3sge and Aristo 2jzgte..

The only 6 cylinder engine that will fit without serious surgery or killing the weight bias is the 1G.
Comes in 1G-GTE turbo or 1G-GZE supercharger forms.

The 1UZ-FE fits but requires a fair bit of effort.
Here's my stalled attempt on a TA45 Carina.
http://members.iinet.net.au/~stepho/mods.htm#CarinaV8

A more obvious choice is the 3T-GTE turbo engine.
Drop in replacement for your old 3T-C.
Make sure you get the gearbox because the bellhousing is ultra rare (although the 1G uses a compatible one with the clutch cylinder on the other side).
Or just use an automatic gearbox - common as chips.
160HP stock, 200HP with a bigger turbo, 300HP with serious internal upgrades.

A 4A-GZE supercharged engine can be made to fit but if I remember rightly the distributor hits the firewall (or I might be thinking of the 20 valve).
Convert to a crank angle sensor (needs aftermarket ECU), or add an elbow to the distributor drive or put a recess in the firewall.
The last of the 20 valve 4A-GE's put out similar power.

The 3S-GTE can fit.
Use a bellhousing from the ST141 Corona.
If you have more money you can get a 6 speed sequential gearbox from a JDM Caldina.
The Caldina can also supply a nice 3S-GE.

Can you do me a favour?
The JDM TA63 Carina's that I have brochures for only mention the 3T-GTE GT-T and GT-TR.
I'd like to see the info on the build plate on the firewall in the engine bay so I can add it to my Carina web page.
Thanks.

Hey stepho
I think the 3tgte is too old and needs to much work to get it up to spec. And the 4agze with a turbo wll not supply enough torque. I am looking at running around 200kw atw for now but want to be able to make upwards of 400kw atw later when the motor is build. I have build caldinas with t3/t04e turbos that happily make 200kw at all four wheels with touching the fueling or internals and this would be a great engine but i need to change the plenum turn the turbo around and so on. il get you the photo asap. Whats you site??? thanks

Ah, a bit more serious than I thought.
Then the choice is between a 3S-GTE, non turbo 1UZ-FE (stock 280HP at flywheel) and a turbo'd 1UZ-FE.
To turbo the 1UZ you can swap the exhaust manifolds to the other side and make them point forwards and up.
Mount twin turbo's on top and feed the exhaust down and backwards.
That's what Jamie did for his TA22 Celica.

My site is more for stock RWD Toyotas.

I forgot to mention about Mick's non turbo 1UZ in a '77 RA28 Celica.

Wouldnt the 2jzgte perform better then the 1uz in the sense of weight and power. Also be a easier swap and better potential with standard internals, being forged and turbo already.... Im realy leaning toward the 3sge form the rs200 Altezza and could save up a bit of money and go forged internals, turbo and standalone etc. I know that 3s are good motors but i have owned a lot of toyotas that just have not been as quick as i would like it to be. Lets just say i have not been the slowest but neither have i been the quickest in between my mates. Those bloody silvias and gtr's and evos and stis... Id love to own something that could eat a few of those if you know what i mean..

The 1UZ has been known to go past 500HP on stock internals and only external bolt-ons (big turbo, aftermarket ECU, etc).

I know that the earlier generations (like my RA28 and TA45) will not fit a 2JZ without cutting the firewall.
But the 63 does have a bigger engine bay, so the 2ZJ might just fit.

Not sure about the weight of the 2JZ-GTE but the all alloy 1UZ didn't weigh much more than my old cast iron 2T-GEU (judging by how far the springs moved).

But my main worry would be not the total weight but the weight distribution.
Having that long 6 cylinder put its weight in front of the axle must surely kill handling.
Great for drags but crap for real world driving.

To be honest, if you have your heart set on a 2JZ then you'd be better off starting with the equivalent Supra MA61.
The Supra was designed to easily fit a 6 cylinder.
Alternatively, look for a lighter car.
