Depends. If you got 3S-FE in the ST165, the 5S-FE will go it with ease. Just reuse ALL electrical from the ST165. If its a 3S-GE, you'll need a full swap with wiring harness.

well if its 165 and 185 then that implies two alltracs. so there's minor changes between the two engines. if you mean in general an engine from an xT16x (fourth gen celica) to a xT18x (fifth gen celica) then there are some variables such as swapping ecus and wiring harnesses

The 185 will bolt right in and you can run it with the 165 ECU. The biggest thing is doing the wiring conversion or else just get the 185 ECU and wiring harness. Of course, the regular 185 has an ATA TMIC, so you'll need to put an air scoop on your hood otherwise you'll heat soak rapidly. If you can get an RC185 it has the WTA IC, so you won't have to put any scoop on the hood.

If you have the 185 motor, ECU and wiring harness, that makes it easier but there's still gonna be some minor wiring work to do. I see you've posted on www.alltrac.net too; that's good b/c a lot of the guys have done the swap there. You should check out Chris D's site, he has some good info on it.
