Gen5 92' GTS Brings Me to My Knees

So I picked up my project Celica for the V6 sleeper project...

I was planning on driving it back to school so i can prep it over the next few months and get it ready for the swap. It has been running the past couple times that I drove it (parked at my parents) with only a shudder around 2000 rpm. I get in it Monday morning and it stalls, chokes, shudders, and won't start. It is intermittent, sometimes starts and runs, sometimes cuts out immediately, sometimes waits till I stop to die.

I knew the O2 sensor was causing the original shudder, so I went and got a cheapy (don't want to put any money into the motor, if it dies, it doesn't matter). Car starts brilliantly, seems fine. When I go to drive it just after the sun goes down, nothing. Runs for a few seconds, dies. Now I am blaming the gas, it has to be bad. It has a half tank of what could be sludge gas.

I coax it to a gas station and put some STP additives in it, hoping not to have to get a fuel filter. Add some more new gas and the damn pump goes to 14.8 gallons. BROKEN FUEL GAUGE. SOB! So now it's got a full tank of gas, tons of pickup and the needle says empty. I don't mind counting miles, but seriously! I felt so dumb having to explain to my boss I missed work because I couldn't figure out that I was out of gas.
