Question Please help! How to drain fuel tank?

Hi,

Could anyone help a newbie?

What is the easiest way to drain the fuel tank on a 1993 Celica ST? The tank is currently 3/4 full of 3 year old gas. Is it possible to syphon through the filler neck?

Is there a "how-to" on dropping the tank? I've tried searching but no luck. The service manual doesn't cover it either.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Should work.
Or disconnect fuel feed line under the car and run fuel pump till no gas come out. Its the biggest one.
Either way it won't be empty but should be good once you fill it up with good gas and injection cleaner.

I've read that some cars have a mesh barrier that prevents syphoning. Anyone know if it applies the 5th gen celicas?

Not sure, but just run a tube down and see it it goes through. If so, you can buy a siphon pump for about $10.

You can also just disconnect the hose at the fuel pressure regulator (at the end of the fuel rail), then remove the fuel pump relay and jumper the connector to run the pump. Like the previous post said, you won't get every drop out, but a majority.

Why do you want to drop the tank? I've done it several times, and it is not any fun at all. If you just want to get the old gas out, doing the step above will get 99% of it out, and putting fresh fuel in it, don't worry about the little old gas you had left in it.
