just want to get this straight

i know that the st185 engine will bolt into my st165
i have some people saying i can use the st165 harness and ecu but just cahnge a few connectors or use the st185 harness and ecu and do nonthing i just want to know before i start throwing the cash down and then have to spend more becuase i was told the wrong i have searched for days EVERYWHERE and keep getting different answers

You need ST185 harness and ECU. 5S-FE and 3S-GTE ECU use completely different plug. You'll need the plugs from ST185 harness anyway so why not take the whole thing so you don't need to rewire?

i have a 3sgte so i just use the st185 harness and ecu and thats it

You can use the the st165 harness and ecu for the st185 engine but will require alot of work. Some plugs will need to be swapped and the ecu pin outs will need to be changed slightly. If you can get your hands on a complete st185 engine, wiring harness and ecu then by all means use them. Using the old harness and ecu is not worth the work if you have access to the st185 harness/ecu.
