My celica just sputtered and died while driving, I replaced the timing belt, plugs, wires, cap, and rotor about 300 miles ago and it was running great. Now I have checked for spark, timing, and it has fuel pressure and a smell of gas when I crank it over but it will not even fire. Any help would be great. Thanks!
tested the coil and signal generator with a meter and all is in spec. also used a timing light as engine was being cranked and timing was as should be. I was thinking that maybe I had spark but not at right time but that seemed to blow that theory. I must be missing something. Does the ignitor control the injecter pulses? Thanks
This happend on my '94 GT too. The ECM was bad. I sent it off for repair, which was successful. For that reason, the plugs were fouled. I cleaned the plugs and it runs fine.
Thanks for the input, I've been busy and the celica got put aside for a bit. I'm leaning towards the ecm being the problem but want to test somemore this weekend before I spend the $. The rotor fits the same as the old one did, I pulled it out of the trash to check it. I'll post more as I figure it out. Thanks again. Don.
The wires on the connector to my distributor were so brittle they cracked and a couple of them broke completely. Have you looked at those. Just a suggestion to help you narrow this downand eliminate that as a cause.
Well i'm back to working on the celica, still no luck. This is where i'm at. Timing checks out, I've checked marks from crankshaft to cam gear to distributor and all line up correctly. I have changed the distributor although the old one tested good it needed replaced due to the shaft getting loose and starting to show signs of slight oil leakage. With the sparkplugs removed and in the wires I have good spark. With every thing put together I can hook up my timing light and while it is being cranked over I am seeing the light flash and timing showing 8 degrees btc. My compression tests 150 to 165 which is in spec. On to the fuel system, fuel pressure is good and I drained the tank and refilled to eliminate fuel quality since it quit shortly after a fill-up. Injetors are getting apulse which I checked with node lights and I am flooding cylinders after cranking so I think my fuel system is ok. The only code in the comp. was a coolant temp sensor code and I have checked the sensor and wiring and all look good. I have also checked the map, air temp, and tps and all check ok. Toyota thought it was my ecm so I replaced that and still nothing.
So I'm open for suggestions, any new ideas? Thanks Don
Check your crank position sensor and your knock sensor. If its not that you are boned cause thats the only thing left that would cause a crank no start.

^^^ Um ya it does, its bolted on the bottom side of the cranks timing gear. A crank sensor is what tells your car its at TDC(top dead center)and can add spark and fuel to ignite, any car that is fuel injected will have 1.
