Gen5 How do I tell which ECU goes with my engine

I have bought a Gen 2 3SGTE engine to be installed into my Gen 5 Celica. My problem is the company who took it out cut the wiring loom and did not send the ECU!!! They are being no help what so ever as to the year of the engine or the part number of the ECU that was on it and to be honest I feel I have been had!!!

So my question is:

Is there a code on a 3SGTE engine that will help me identify the year so that I can get hold of the correct ECU?

And does anyone know where I might be able to get a complete wiring loom? ( I have all the sensors and clips in place, looks like they just cut the loom right at the ECU!!!)

Any help would be hugely apreciated

Cheers
Dave

Where are you buying the ECM? They should help you with the identification of the engine/ECM. They could probably advise you on where to get the ECM connection, or may sell you one from their inventory. Sounds like a junk yard wiring harness may be your best bet. I used these guys for my ECM repair. They did my ECM repair and did a good job:

My problem is they want to know which year my engine is (different ECMs depending on the year of the engine) and I do not know how to tell which year it is?

Does anyone know where the serial number is on a 3sgte and does anyone have a decoder to tell which year it is from the serial number?

The serial number is stamped on the rear of the cylinder block. Look on the vertical face of the block, near where the water neck (with all the sensors attached) is located. The dealer can run the number and tell you what year the engine is. There may also be some sites that have that information. The guys over at www.alltrac.net may be able to decode it for you too. Good luck.
