Leaky Oil Pan Gasket???

Leaky Oil Pan Gasket???

Has anyone experienced a leaky oil pan gasket??? I was wondering if I should tighten the screws on it??? or would that make it worse??? There seems to be alot of work involved in replacing the gasket.

Thanks in advance

yeah, the gsaket is cheap. For work theres a brace that goes from the front of the car back right under the pan. I've heard that you can just un bolt that to get to the pan. If not it would probably mean un bolting the engine so I think check out the brace first. I didn't have a leaky pan gasket when I got my 4th gen GT-S I had a leaky PAN. The pan had a rust spot on it so the oil was leaking through the pan. I got a better one from the wrecker for cheap.

why not give it a try?

Your pan is already leaking any way. Just be sure to use a torque wrench and the correct torque setting. Are you sure it is the pan gasket? It is more likely to be the front or rear seal or a pan that has rusted through. Changing the pan is a pain to do right because the exhaust and cross member are in the way. Changing the front seal is only slightly easier. I would suggest you clean the pan thoroughly and then check for leaks daily 'til you are certain of the source if you haven't already done this.

Before you tear into it, keep in mind that oil flows downwards, it could be coming from the crank seal, dizzy o-ring, valve cover, etc.

Your leaking oil pan

My 93 celica st had started leaking once i hit 133,000 miles.
I just lifted the car up, drained the oil. Cleaned out the pan and replaced the gasket. The pan has around 16-18 bolts and really easy to do.

Its a very common problem with most vehicles, make sure you don't over torque bolts and strip them out.

About the drain plug, next time you change your oil.
Make sure you wipe off the residue off the plug, sometimes sand. grit, and other foreign objects collect on the steel and doesn't make perfect contact.

Any other questions about your Celicas you can e-mail me at Ridingoncloudz@aol.com

Which seal?

You must determine what is leaking for sure. I thought the front seal on my '88 was leaking only to find that the cam cover bolts were only finger tight and there was oil all over the back side of the engine. The distributer seal is also leaking on my car - very common problem. If you are not absolutely certain of the source it is worth paying a shop to track it down using dye and a black light. I've read there are even kits available now to do this your self but I don't know who sells them or what the cost. Definitely worth knowing the exact source. The front crank seal can be done in the car. I don't know how hard the rear seal is to do. Gotta be cheaper than replacing the engine. The coolant leak is probably unrelated. There are so many places for coolant leaks on this engine that I couldn't really guess at the source. I would look for the simplest spots first like where rubber hoses join metal tubes or the block.

i think it is actually burning coolant.....cause i don't see a separate puddle of coolant except for a bit mixed in the oil..... would the coolant be a separte problem?????

I checked my rad and it is low on coolant and the overflow res. is a little brownish color..

BUT THE FUNNY THING IS THAT MY CAR RUNS STRONGER than ever!!!!

i would expect the car temp to rise, but it stays the same..... i am not gonna add any coolant until the temp rises
