I got a 1990 celica ST i know it had some major work done,as in hood replace and i can see frame damage that was fix and a few other mino thing on the front end of car. What im trying to find out is what engine i got Hood say 2.2L but i figer it was replace from a celica that had a 2.2L ST has 1.6L but i have purchase oil filter for a 2.2L and spark plug(probaly no diff on plugs)vavle cover gasket. well what i want to know is thier a way to know for sure what engine type it is. i cant find any other markings that says 2.2L, or 5SFE or 4AFE or anything like that other than hood Vavel cover says "16 Vavel EFI". and from what i can tell one of the owner did alot of work on it found some wiring made for a show car

easiest visual cue between the two engines is whether or not it sits on an angle. The 5sfe 2.2L that came in the GT and GTS stock sits back on an angle towards the firewall. Also, it will say 2200 on a little plate on the intake manifold. The 4afe 1.6L that came in the ST model sits straight up and down in the engine bay. Also you can do an image search on google, and you'll be able to view a few more differences.
