Gen5 Celica 2.2 Timing Question!!!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/90-99...Q5fAccessories
This seems like a very good deal

My question is how do you guys feel about the ebay kits?

My brotehrs celica isnt starting to to a sloppy tensioner and a VERY worn belt.

He is very limited in how much much he can afford for his car.

What say you?

I bought a similar kit like this for a 99 Passat 2.8L V6 several years ago. About 30k miles after the change, a tensioner bearing went out, caused the timing belt to jump, and with an interference engine, valves were bent, a head cracked.

This was my only experience. If I bought ebay kits 10 times and only once did something like this happen, I would be cautious about them, but would probably try again. But given it happened the first time, I would never buy kits like this from an ebay source.

No, it wasn't from this seller. I was just generalizing on these kinds of kits offered by any seller on ebay.

If you've had good luck buying these kits from this particular seller, I wouldn't think that their Toyota parts quality would be any different than their Honda part quality.

got the WP off. I put each bolt removed into the same place on the new WP. apparently there is an oil pump bolt or something nearby, cuz I filled the new WP with bolts, and of course assumed the old pos WP would come right off.

being really cold (outside in parking lot), irritable, and using a crappy flashlight really impedes this kinda work. But need the car tomorrow pretty bad if Im going to be going to my parents, so Im gonna spend all night on it if I must

I would bet the gasket used on your old WP was holding the pump body onto the engine pretty good.

I really didn't understand your last post real well. Were you successful in getting the new pump installaed? Working outside with a flashlight, wow, that has to be hard, especially in replacing all the parts in the kit, getting the timing right, and tensioning the new timing belt right. Hope everything went well. Let us know.

Thanks lol

CAR FIRED UP AND RAN BUTTER SMOOTH!!!!!!

then she coughed, sputtered, and left a pool of gas under the filter on the ground.

here is why I think:

Due to massive amounts of rust on the underside of the car, I cpouldnt cut teh ful line without fear of pulling all teh lines apart. I coulndt remove any line brackets, and when I pulled on what I thought was teh fuel line, it BROKE in my hands. a few minutes of cursing and mentally punching my self, I gladly found it was the return line. I cleaned the line best I could on both broken ends and used a small piece of rubber hose stolen from the honda fuel pump I had ionstalled earlier. worked great.

that meant I had to cut trhe line under the hood when I did the filter. cut it nearly perfect 90* degree angle, used compression fitting

I think my compression fitting took a crap. almost expected it, when I did that it was even colder and windier out. and due to the ackward angle and space, I may have made it on the edge iof the line (fitting), causing it to work only for a short time

CURSE WISCONSIN WINTER

so yeah guys, fuel is teh answer to the car problem. much better then a waterpump that is stuck grinding it self, timing belt nearly broken, and a tensioner spring softer then a baby

the motor was CAKED in grease and oil UGH

Im having my brother have the professionals do teh camshaft seal and oil pump seal, then cleaning the motor up.

then its time to buy new timing cover seals cuz the old ones are bloated. bloated, causing the PS belt to grind a groove/tear in teh cover and the crank pulley making a nice circle footprint

BTW guys, CRANK TRICK!!!

breaker bar and 19mm on the crank bolt. take a jack and jack the handle 2-3 inches form teh ground.
have the battery with a good charge. now pulse the starter, pops the crank bolt off every time for me.
