Hi, all. I have another option to getting a spare head unit for my 93 Celica GT convertible with the System 10 premium audio system. I can get a good factory head unit (Toyota Part No. 86120-33110), but the anti-theft feature is set, and the seller doesn't have the unlock code. A dealer in our area wants $90 to provide the unlock code.
Is there a method to unlock these units if the anti-theft feature is set, but the 3-digit code is not known, other than to spend a lot of money at a dealer?
If I clean out, and get my spare double unit System 10 CD deck working, you can have it with my alarm box. They're paired, and as far as I know, they can be reinstalled in any vehicle as long as they are together. I also have a working 220w System Amplifier I need to sell that I cleaned out, checked and added heat grease to the heatsink.
If you could find out from the dealer that a unit will work if still paired, you can have these.
Hmm, I don't have an "alarm box" between my System 10 head unit and the 220W amplifier.
Anyway, the owners manual says anytime power is lost in the system (dead battery, battery replacement, etc.), if the anti-theft feature is activated, the 3-digit code is required to unlock the head unit. So, if you had your head unit's anti-theft feature activated, and if you don't have the 3-digit code, then your unit wouldn't be useful for either of us anymore. Did you have a problem with your spare System 10 unit? You said you need to get it working.

Thanks for the offer though.
I have cut my power numerous times, and the alarm works just fine, including the deck. In fact, it is sitting in the car right now, with a dead battery. If I go and jump her, it'll all go back to working. From my experience, the deck has a few shorts in it (knowing if a CD is in, or random switching to FM) which is likely coming from the previous owner's smoking habit. It needs a good cleaning, which I semi-professionally at my audio/visual job right now.
I don't need the deck or alarm, it is sitting in my project GT-S. I plan on transferring my current GT audio setup after my V-6 swap and cabin sound deadening work.
I did say give, so I would only charge you for shipping both items. Some research has to be done on whether or not transplanted radios and their alarm box will work.
Lastly, the alarm box is on the harness, and it is located under the driver seat. It is not between the radio and amplifier, but on a separate circuit. You can have an alarm and the stock Cassette radio. This just happens to be a System 10 Radio with CD player.

I do appreciate the offer. I'll think about it and let you know. Is your head unit the 16804 (86120-33110)?
I just checked my car again, and I don't have an alarm box under the driver's seat. I have the amplifier under the passenger seat only. Is your alarm box a factory option, or is it an aftermarket unit that you installed? How does it work (what sets it off, and what does it do once it's triggered)?
That is the unit I believe. The Fujitsu 8/12, CD-AM/FM double unit deck. Everything is factory installed, no aftermarketness yet. Just doing some body work using convertible side skirts to fix rocker rust.
Basically, if you open the trunk or another door once the system is armed, you have 15 seconds to turn the ignition to accessory or it sets off the horn. There is a switch on the dash that allows you to bypass the alarm or set it to valet mode. When you park the car, remove the key from the ignition, the alarm is off. As soon as you lock and close the doors, it arms.
My 93 owners manual and my shop repair manuals don't mention a factory alarm system. Yet your alarm system is factory? Very intersting.
But if the alarm system is integral with the System 10 audio system in some fashion, I probably shouldn't consider it further, as I don't have something like this, much less a switch to activate it.
It's a GT-S, and I believe my manual talks about the system. If you look on your dash, far right next to the passenger windshield defrost vent, you have a round cap. If you pop that out, a little plastic dome with a blinking LED light gets wired in there. It was a factory option upgrade, like alloy wheels, electric lumbar support seats and the System 10 Premium Sound Package.
The convertible was actually an aftermarket done by Suncoast Customs, using Toyota made parts, a canopy made by them (I believe) and installed by them. The best part were the appearance upgrade Toyota Side Skirts that can be found and used to cover rocker panel rust!
No, never did. So I never bought the unit. But later in 2010, I did find another good System 10 head unit in a salvage yard. Got that, and tested it, and everything on that head unit works great. Installed with (with an amp) in a 91 ST coupe for my son, so I'm still kind of looking for a spare System 10 head unit, but it isn't a high priority for me right now.
