Help! Running pig rich! stock 2.2 liter

This car seems to be plagued with problems. I am determined to see through to the light!!

It smells pretty rich from what I can smell and see from the exhaust

1991 Celica GTS with the 2.2

in case some of you havent seen, its gotta ton of new parts:

-timing belt assembly
-water pump
-fuel pump
-fuel filter
-Denso TT plugs
-newer cone filter on the shortram intake (came with car)

Car drives fairly smooth, simply feels like it looses a bit of power randomly. Id guess and say it runs smooth 20% of the time, else it feels underpowered, though perfectly drivable (hondas are drivable, right? lol j/k)

What do you guys suggest I check?

I plan on learning how to check/test an O2 sensor

NO check engine lights have shown!!

check the o2 sensor

Also, possibly with the timing belt having been done, cam timing could be a bit off.

I havent tested the O2 yet. no codes either.

I did recheck the timing. I cranked the motor over to 0 on teh timing cover for the crank, and removed the disty cover and its right on #1 from appearances. at most its half a tooth off from being dead on.

My brother said he noticed this approx 100 miles of driving after the timing belt was done. it could easily be he drive 300 miles without noticing until then as well. He isnt big into cars lol.

I added zero gauge ground number two today, from the battery terminal to the headlight support. brighter headlights FTW. Im doing it on all cars I work on now, replacing skinny grounds with nice thick ones.

anyways, driving today, the motor finally got a chance to warm fully up. usually its a 3-4 mile drive home to work for him. spo about 6-8 miles each day, plus occasional 4-5 miles roundtripo while going to gasstation or grocery store for things. today I drove it for a good 30 minutes, keeping the rpms in the 2-3k range.

car didnt stutter or have low rpm power issues.

EGR is at the top of my list right now to remove and clean.

results posted tomorrow when he gets back from work. so Ill have time after 6-7PM to work on it

thanks for teh response!

Does anyone have the specs for a normally functioning O2 sensor?

On a related note, When my O2 sensor went bad, I ran pig rich-with black soot exiting both exhaust , leaving black spatter marks on the concrete, some backfiring and got only 14mpg.!

^ You can find a decent meter for less than $25.00.
If you don't have emissions tests in Wisc., just remove the EGR!

I ahte removing emissions equipment. If I did that for him, I would strip teh bay and make him anew wiring harness for a tucked look.

but considering the bottom of teh car is more rust then metal, and teh car has nearly 300k miles, its not worth it.

I keep telling him to keep an eye out for a 3.0 v6 or another 2.2, and a shell to throw it in.

this car has okay suspension still for its age, prolly repalced around 200k miles, as it does ride well.

pulled the EGR an hour ago.

CARBON BUILDUP SUCKS!!
