antena changing question

the antena broke off the back of my 92 celica, I just got the new one in the mail to replace it
before I go outside I thought Id just ask if there is anything special that I need to do/that will make it easier

i fixed my automatic antenna on my celica once cuz it made a horrible noise when it went up and about a month later it did it again so i just let it go up make the noise then i unplugged it in the up position so i dont have one that goes up and down anymore...

1.- Unscrew and remove the locking nut retainer (chromed one on the base of the antenna... yes, IT DOES COME OFF)

2.- Turn the radio on so the antenna will go up, it should almost jump out.

3.- Insert the antenna cable with the "teeth" facing forward (I think, cant remember.... I replaced mine 2 months ago)

4.- Have someone turn the radio off while U hold the mast; this will make the antenna retract and get "sucked" down.

5.- Replace locking nut and Bob's yer uncle.

its not as easy at it sounds..it took me a few tries to get the teeth aligned

I replaced my dam atena 5 times withe the retrackedable. It really sucked. They wear out too quick or the ice will build and break it off. I then got tired and put in a rubber universal antenna and it has been there since. It doesn't break off. It looks real cool and is lighter than that retrck. unit.

Yah, I hear you.... it took me at least 8-10 tries just to get the teeth alingned and make sure the top portion was flush with the locking nut when the antenna came completly down. PITA, but now at least I remember to lower the thing while passing under low clearence spaces
