I made a short shift with a hacksaw

I bought a "MOMO raptor" style shift knob today and when i put it on i noticed that the thing was huge. I was planning on cutting down my shifter so i was like FUCK and cut like an inch and a half off. It feel's better but is still kinda big. Damn 4th gen celica's and they're huge shifters.

yeah, it's better. the only thing that sucks is the shift knob. it sits high and didn't really think of that when i bought it. oh well it's nice having a shorter shift and it looks better.

Hacking off some of your shifter doesn't make it short-throw shifter.

It might now be a real short throw shifter but it looks better and with the shifter shorter does it not have to move less inbetween shifts? I think it does. If you have a shifter that is like 5inches long its gonna move less than a shifter thats 10 inches. eather way it moves less. It was free to do and it looks better.

your arm won't have to move as much, but the force needed to shift will be greater. It only moves slightly less. I suggest getting a real short shifter. It will work much better than jsut chopping it up.

I could but to me it really doesn't matter. I only paid like $2,000 for the car and i take care of it but I'm not gonna start doing mods like that untill I get a good car. I'm hoping to get a better job soon so i can start saving money for another car and when I do that then I'll start doing real mods.

You do free mods like this to your "crap" car and keep your nice car OEM. Mods frick your car up. They are all trade offs otherwise toyota will manufacture with them with the mods.

CAI: water gets in your engine rusts things.
turbos: kill gas miliage
Muffler: needs to be quiet.
Manifolds: cost too much to make bigger.
better ignition systems: again cheaper the way they are.

yeah, when I get my good car I want to do
-header
-exaust
-wheels/tires
-suspension
-minor body work
-maybe change some parts like lights to euro style
-a few interior things
and thats about it for now. The car I have is good but needs a little body work. other than that I just don't think its worth doing much because its old. I'll take some pics and make a list of stuff done to the car in the next couple days so you guys can check it out.

Back to the short shifter for a sec... I'm thinking about hacking 2" off my Camry's shifter, i know it's not a true short throw just a shorter shifter but since the effort needed to shift is greater does that place extra strain on the trans itself? Just askin
