Gen5 Engine Swaps

looking into upgrading the celica, trying to get a feel of what is the easiest (most direct bolt in) route for an engine swap. I don't want a v6, so I've narrowed it down to the 3SGTE or the 4AGE 20V. I know the potential of the 4AG engine, not so much for the 3SGTE. Both motors would be sourced from the same production range 89-93 and going into a 1990 celica gt with a 5SFE fwd. I'm trying to figure out what all is involved as far as fabrication, extending wiring harness, and transmision for this. Gotta say, if its possible, it would be pretty could to have a 4AG celica!

Well, the 5SFE and 3SGTE have more similarities than with the 4AG.
The 3S is way more upgradeable too. Not to mention that just upping the boost will give you almost double the HP over the 4AG.
The 4AG IS a great motor though. But I think in that regard I would go 4AGZ over the 4AG

a fair amount of guys with STs have swapped a version of a 4age into it.

The 4age is a great motor, but I think you may even be slightly dissapointed in the 20v going from the 5sfe. the 5S has a nice torque curve, you get a fair amount of power down low, while the 20 you have to rev the hell out of to really get anything from it.

But with you already having an S series engine, you would have to move an engine mount, and change around more drivetrain elements like tranny, axles, etc.

So I would just recommend the 3SGTE

If you want 4A-GE for NA, look for 3S-GE instead. If you want turbo, 3S-GTE.
