2000 celica 5speed .. 2nd gear grinding

i recently pulled and rebuilt my entire 1zzfe and i figured while everything was out, i would try to fix the transaxle.

when i put it into second gear hard, it grinds before engaging.. could this be a synchro or something?

if so does anyone know how hard it would be for me to split the trans and replace a part or two??

Does it happen as well on a downshift without double clutching?

try double clutching a down shift, if that removes your problem, its a synchro.

If it is, usually unless you have the tools and know how, its cheaper to obtain another transmission...especially for the 1zz, those were fairly common
