Headlight problem Celica 1992

Hi, Can anyone help I have a 1992 Celica with a faulty headlight. The problem started with the drivers side headlight occasionally failing to flip up, now it doesn't flip up at all. To help isolate the problem I removed the complete headlight assembly and plugged it into the passenger side harness and proved that the assembly is working OK. I have checked the plug/socket assy to the unit and that seems fine. I think the problem is in the retractor relay unit but alas I have a Canadian manual which doesn't show where its location is. I have found a relay assy in both the floor well on pasenger and driver's side but appears to have nothing to do with the flip up headlights. Can anyone advise to its exact location, is it under the steering wheel/dash assy where the bonnet release lever is. I don't want to end up stripping everything out if I can help it.

Regards Peter

Hey -
I looked on the repair manual shows "Retract Control Relay (for CANADA)" inside vehicle, driver side, under dash, kind of in front of brake pedal. Maybe the motor is going bad, over loading the circuit. Have you tried hooking up passenger motor on driver side (to run both at once)??

Is the light on the driver side coming on, or is the whole thing not working? If the light does come on, your motor could be seizing or there might be a wire not making a connection. Try turning the manual adjustment knob attached to the bottom of the headlight assembly. If the motor starts reacting after this is done, then try spraying some "release all" or some sort of similar product, and it should work. If this doesnt work your motor could be fried.

Your bulbs are probably dead.... get new lights and see if it helps.

When I got my 87 GTS,driver side high beam did not work...later found out the wire for the high beam was not connected to the plus which the headlight plugs into. lol.

Does anyone make projector light kits for the 5th gens? They'd look pretty nice to get rid of the flip ups and have fixed headlights with a clear cover, sort of like the kits I've seen some RX7s and S13s with.
