Removing rotors

Trying to replace the rotors on my 94 celica. They seem to be pretty rusted on....i dont even know when they were last replaced. Before i bust out the big ol rubber mallet, is there anything i need to do for the rotors to be released. I see there are two small holes on the rotor face that are threaded inside...are these for some type of tool that pulls the rotors off?? Any help/info/tips would be a great help, thanks.

You found the solution! Those threaded holes in the rotors are to use with a couple bolts. Screw the bolts into the threaded holes, and they will bottom out against the hub behind the rotor. Turn each bolt about a half-turn, alternating between bolts, and after several turns, the rotor will release from the hub (probably rust holding it on). Then pull the rotor off and remove the bolts. Toyota did a nice job with this simple design. Many other US manufacturers haven't figured this simple one out yet.

That is a great question. I guess I don't technically know. I have so many fasteners around from having 3 Celicas in the family and frequent trips to the salvage yard, I just go to my metric bolt bucket and pull a couple out to use when needed. I know they are metric, but without going to a hardware store to find out the size & thread pitch, I couldn't really tell you.

hit the rotora with a hammer before relying on 2 bolts to remove the rotor.

rust alone will keep the from being successful. damn rust.

but the hitting with a hammer thing should loosen it up enough for it to work
