Unhappy question on the 3sgte turbo

hi, i'm new to the board but i have a couple of questions for you guys.

i have a 91 celica alltrac turbo and i am having an issue with it. i just had the oil feed line replaced because it was bad and leaking oil everywhere. anyway, now the turbo has another problem. it seems like it is leaking all around the actual blower and has gotten up onto the heat shield as well. i'm not exactly sure what it is though. could it be the oil feed line again? or could the spindle have gone out and it's leaking oil from the turbo itself? when i try to accelerate, the boost guage reads hardly any boost, but it does go up a little... any ideas what it could be? if it's the feed line, i'll take it back to the mechanic who replaced it.

also, if it is the turbo itself, i was thinking about replacing it. what turbos should i look into. i'd like something with a performance gain, like a t3/t4 hybrid or something like this one
my only problem is that i don't want to spend too much money on this so i don't want to replace the turbo manifold and downpipe. would something like this bolt up without any other modifications?? if not, do you guys have any suggestions?

any advice is welcome
thanks in advance.

It could be the seals on the turbo on their way out. Have you checked for oil in your I/C pipes? For a nice relatively cheap turbo, Wraith (Justin) on this board has a nicely sized upgrade for sale, PM him. Goodluck.

the CT24 turbo from any all trac will bolt right up, they are pretty common and easy to get ahold of. if you cant find the CT24 then any t3/t4 hybrid should bolt up.

I know I am a noob to this board but what is a CT24? Its a CT26 stock. IMO a CT20b will be better upgrade for a stock 3SGTE. Again what are your power goals? What else do you have done to your turbo?

Your question:
The turbo seals are going is my best guess. Did you pull your intake hose? If there is oil in there? The stock engine has no PCV valve and likes to suck oil into the intake hose, it will blow past the impeller wheel and into your intercooler. If you take the intake hose off, check shaft for excessive play with your fingers.

ummm....you need to read where the ct20b came from before you make a comment like that

a t3/t4 would be a decent upgrade for it.

What are you saying here? A CT20b is a easy turbo to find on the market and is a direct bolt on to a 2nd gen 3SGTE exhaust manifold. Last time I checked both the CT26 and CT20b both came from Japan if that is what you were getting at. I was not saying that a t3/t4 turbo kit would not be a good upgrade, I was saying for a budget minded person that didn't feel like paying for a custom flange set up could use the CT20b and hold 17 psi all day long to redline.

CT20B would be your best bet
The CT20B came on ST205 engines, they are fairly common on the boards for sale. They are more efficient than the CT26.
I know guys with ST185 RC engines that swap out to the CT20B & turn 22psi, without any problems.
you don't have to change anything to bolt the turbo on
you could pick up one in need of seals or a rebuild for about $250-$300, or you could just 56 trim your CT26. But I am assuming you have a non-JDM engine which means you don't have the Ceramic exhaust turbine, so maybe the CT20B would be the better choice considering it is more efficient & will spool faster.
