Gen5 Need some help with my transmission issue

Hey guys, so I was driving to my hometown this weekend going down the freeway and everything was going well until my 5th gear went out.. Sounded like it just popped into neutral but when I went to put it back into gear I noticed it was still in gear. I had nothing NO GOOD. So i drove it to the nearest town in 4th gear and buy the time I got there my 2nd gear was like I was pulling the shifter into a sponge. Really weird feeling buy the way! and my 3rd gear was giving off a whining sound..

Anyways.. I NEED A NEW TRANNY! does anyone have/know where I can pick up a tranny for a 91 5sfe 2.2 liter??? Or what other models share a transmission I could mount to mine? because this is the only way my car gets around right now.. lol

Anything you guys can offer would be great!!!

Sorry to hear about your transmission troubles. I just replaced mine yesterday. I bought mine from Japanese Imports Engine and Transmisson. They are in Dallas TX and Atlanta GA. Their number is 214-352-3222. I'm in Tennessee. Mine is a 91 st. The replacement trans was from a 92 st according to the vin tag. The only issue was the different size fork, t/o brg and ball pivot. I just used mine since I had recently replaced the clutch anyway. They delivered it within a week and it was shrinkwrapped and on a pallet. I would buy from them again. NO more sloppy differential and 5th gear shifter wobble!

HTH,

Don

You can also check for salvage transmissions on:

www.car-part.com

You can search only for transmissions that fit your Celica in your state to see who has them locally. Of course, with salage, you never know for sure what you are getting, but typically a salvage transmission carries a short warranty, so you should know if you got a good one or not within that time period.

Just another avenue.

Thanks guys. I completely forgot about car-parts.com. I looked and there is one 9 miles away from me.. this might not be so bad. I do agree though with buying one from the salvage yard I might be getting one that's only gonna last a couple months or maybe a year. just gonna have to do what I can to prevent that though i guess. It looks like I actually have a couple options as places around here to pick a tranny from.
