Question Auto transmission - some whine normal?

I have a 2001 Celica GT 1ZZ-FE with the U341E auto trans. In 3rd and 4th gear, I can hear a whine that gets higher in pitch with acceleration. If I let off the gas pedal, the whine goes away or becomes inaudible. There's no whine when driving in 1st and 2nd gear.

I did an ATF flush, changed the filter, and even added a 10 oz bottle of Lubegard platinum.

Not having any issues with driveability and the shifts feel smooth... should I still be worried?

After checking and ruling out other possibilities like the belt/tensioner, alt, power steering, i'm pretty sure it's the trans.

Aisin warner trannys are known for their whines and is due to loose tolerances from the factory. If you did ATF flush with the proper spec, there is not much else you can do.

Ahh, oh well...

Hmm, maybe I'll just spray the firewall with some of that rubber undercoat/sound blocking spray.

odd, they're usually noisy in 1st and quiet in later gears. could it be differential gear noise getting louder as road speed increases or tire noise?
